I am a Texas Board Certified Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master’s degree in Guidance & Counseling (Mental Health Counseling) and a Doctorate degree in Christian Counseling. Additionally, I hold a second doctorate degree along with several academic degrees in science and education from universities in three different continents! I have expertise in helping clients deal with: anxiety, depression, grief, parenting difficulties, marital problems, family conflicts, relationship challenges, PTSD, and etc.

There are times life throws you curveballs and creates a new set of challenges. Those challenges contribute to mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, financial and relational stress. When those situations occur, we look for relief and comfort. Relief and comfort don't always come immediately. It requires a process to heal from the blows life throws at us.

I am Winifred Okafor, a dedicated and compassionate professional licensed in Texas as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), and credentialed International Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (ICADC), and DOT Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). I have a passion for working with adolescents and emerging adults. However, I am committed to helping all individuals. I understand asking for help can be challenging and uncomfortable for some. My goal is to create a space where the client can be open, vulnerable, and communicate their feelings without judgment.

It is my desire to provide quality services to clients by establishing relationships that encourage growth & mutual respect. I especially enjoy working with couples & families. My focus is to help individuals & families to identify ways to maintain healthy relationships, by providing them with tools that lead to assertive communication, anger control, improved self-esteem, & personal and spiritual growth.

Life can be challenging and unpredictable, it sometimes throws curve balls that catch us completely off guard. It is during those times that we all can use extra support in order to overcome these obstacles and barriers. I commend you for realizing your need for external support and taking this all important first step of seeking counseling, although it may be slightly scary and intimidating for you as well as even go against your cultural background. I have found that therapy works best when we work in partnership together to resolve your issues.

Emotional challenges like depression, anxiety, and anger can get in the way of your daily activities. However, most people are still able to function. It’s when these emotional challenges become a barrier to work productivity, family interactions, and your inability to do things you use to do, that you should seek help. Finding joy in times of high stress and uncertainty can be a challenge. As your counselor, I plan to encourage you to find your inner joy and peace. I will help you create healthy patterns and rebuild habits that serve you positively. I truly believe that we all have the ability to grow and overcome challenges. I will walk with you in whatever journey you’re going through. You can also trust that I will bring a positive nonjudgmental approach in my care at all times.

Are you being: belittled, criticized, stalked, harassed, accused of cheating, or threatened? ​ Or maybe, you are the one feeling insecure in the relationship and are doing these things. ​ Relationships can be hard and confusing so I am here to help with guidance. This is individual counseling. I do not provide couples counseling due to the toxic nature of abuse. I want the person to feel safe coming to me and sometimes, people can hold back or feel unsafe due to a partner's actions.

I have over ten years of experience in serving youth, tweens, teens, adults and families with a variety of mental health disabilities including emotional and behavioral needs. I believe in making the counseling process fun and individualized. I strive to help each individual move toward wholeness and wellness through listening and understanding each person's life story to help bring healing. I have worked with a variety of people from all backgrounds and cultures.

I was born and raised in Texas. I love the Texas Summer nights and Autumn days. I grew up in a blended family of my mother, grandparents, biological brother, and many foster brothers and sisters. Let's just say things were always interesting, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Those experiences helped shape who I am and gave me insight into a variety of people.

Trained in Christian marriage and family counseling - as you might expect, my practice naturally focuses on all things family. Whether I'm helping marriages rekindle their spark, discovering that ever so subtle intervention which transforms discord into family harmony, or breaking through the invisible wall of an obstinate adolescent or child - with over 35 years in the field, there's little I haven't dealt with.
