Somethings just not right. You're not connecting the way you used to. They seem distant or uninteresting. Something needs to change and talking about feelings doesn't cut it. We have served and grown used to one life. Making changes creates challenges, and any great effort has unintentional and unexpected consequences: culture shock, personal relationships, grief, anxiety, depression, institutionalization. I work with veterans and their family members returning home or transitioning to civilian life; people who want to take accountability and collaborate on a path forward.
I use skill building, practical application, and corrective experiences. We learn skills like how to fight fair, how to manage anger, even developing interviewing skills. Then, by using these skills and maybe practicing with your significant other, we are able to develop reasonable expectations for common interactions with others.
After my discharge I settled in Portland to be close to family. I use my experience and training to do efficient work that makes sense.
