Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, the effects of trauma, or relationship challenges? I provide a safe nonjudgmental space to facilitate your healing and growth As an art therapist, counselor, and Ph.D. Mind Body Medicine degree candidate, I view clients holistically. When someone is experiencing anxiety or other mental health issues I work with them to make positive changes that reduce anxiety, depression, and lead to greater overall well-being. In addition, I help clients identify and change patterns of interacting with others that are causing challenges in their relationships.

I am here to create a safe and trusting environment that allows clients to unload their thoughts and emotions. Empowering them in a genuine, straightforward, and relaxed atmosphere to step into the brave space where they are able to find their truth, speak it, and live it. My integrative approach is tailored to each client. During this process the client learns how to accept where they are in this moment. Then identifying and making changes to get to where they want to be. This allows them to free themselves from the persistent negative thoughts and societal pressures holding them back from living the life they have always wanted.

Is the life you're living not the life you imagined? Do you feel like you have given the best of yourself to others and wonder what's left for you? Does it feel like you are running out of time and you have yet to discover your purpose? Have you mastered the art of looking "all together" but inwardly it's taking everything you have to keep yourself together? Do you become angry, frustrated, sad, irritated when you think about your future? Are you feeling life has left you without options forcing you to settle for whatever comes your way? Have you stopped dreaming, imagining, and pursuing the once fiery passions of your heart?

It can be hard to take the step in starting work with a new therapist, especially when we feel our most vulnerable and are suffering. I work with the perspective that the therapeutic relationship between you and myself is of the greatest importance in order to achieve your goals in seeking therapeutic support and guidance. Although I am primarily trained in psychodynamic therapy, I have an eclectic approach in treating a wide variety of psychological struggles which I tailor to each client's needs and preferences.

Maybe you sense you're going through the motions, not truly engaging with all that life has to offer. You crave a sense of purpose and clarity surrounding who you are and what you want your life to mean. Or maybe, you feel confident in your values, but you're struggling to take action. Perhaps you've endured difficult experiences that contribute to dysregulation and the tendency to freeze or flee. On the other side of this suffering, healing is possible.

You struggle with how you see and feel about yourself. You never feel like you are “enough.” You are swimming in self-doubt and all you see are your imperfections. The inner critic that lives in your head is always on overdrive. Sometimes you just wish it would let up for a bit so you could have a moment of peace. It hurts to treat yourself this way, but you don't know another way to be. What would it be like if you weren't constantly berating yourself? In therapy, we will help you look at how you came to see yourself the way you do so you can contend with that voice of self-doubt differently.

I tailor each session to the client in front of me as each client's goals and experiences are unique. When I work with a couple, I provide the space and tools so each partner can feel seen and heard. If I am working with an individual, I help clients slow down so they can learn their thoughts and behavior patterns, choosing to move forward with intention. Tools like self-compassion and emotional awareness can help us identify and change behaviors that are a reaction to unmet needs and previous moments of distress. For many people, those skills were rarely modeled or explicitly taught making them feel unsure of how to apply them.

I have maintained a general practice approach and enjoy working with a variety of difficulties including childhood disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, and personality disorders, I have experience working with individuals who have substance abuse problems. My experiences have allowed me to work with a wide range of people. An example of a few areas I have worked with include graduate students, LGBT individuals, and healthcare professionals including those who work in mental health. A recent addition and growing interest is working with individuals who have developed addictions to prescription medication and do not readily fit into the more general substance abuse population.

Change is happening within us and around us all the time. Even when we feel the most stuck in old habits and patterns that no longer work for us, we are still changing. Counseling can help us see these patterns and shift the dynamic to help us move and grow in ways which reflect our wishes and values. I enjoy listening to the stories other people tell me about their lives. I like to help them identify and enhance their strengths and to find the patterns of action or inaction that need to shift to allow for new growth.

First, I want to acknowledge the courage you exhibit in reaching out your hand for help. Healing can be challenging because it is not easy to unpack life's traumas, stressors, and unpleasant events, but together we will work on unpacking what's on your heart and mind to create space for healing to take place.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Baltimore?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
