I am a licensed clinical psychologist and I see children, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in psychological testing and diagnostic evaluations. I do evaluations for depression, anxiety, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD, behavior problems, learning disorders, and others. I do evaluations in divorce, child custody, criminal, elder competency, personal injury, and other cases. I collaborate with doctors, lawyers, and other mental health professionals.

I am a Licensed Social Worker in Alabama with 24 years of experience providing mental health and behavioral counseling in various settings and various aspects of counseling. My client populations includes, but is not limited to working with adolescents, adults, geriatrics with a variety of mental health/behavioral presenting issues . My practice has evolved over the years to include adults and children dealing with a variety of interpersonal struggles. I try to tailor my approach to the needs of my clients, but find that helping people to identify the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that contribute to their issues (i.e., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is often the most helpful tool. Assessment is also a key component of my practice, whether it is simply a personality assessment to guide treatment or a comprehensive psychological or forensic evaluation to assist in educational planning, divorce, or other matters.

Everyone experiences difficult or emotional situations. Sometimes, it can be difficult to cope with changes that feel overwhelming. You may be facing a divorce, or an important decision in your parenting, work, or life transitions. My practice is devoted to helping children, adolescents, adults, and families work through family and parenting issues, which may include separation, divorce, remarriage, blending their families, loss and/or grief. I bring my current experience as a counselor, my former experience in family and child development, and my personal family experiences with divorce, remarriage, and parenting, to each client.

Being well versed in options that can enhance change functionality, I am capable of assisting with behavior regulation and modification. Experience and training in treating mood and personality disorders along with the symptoms that can derive from those disorders has allowed competence and proficiency in treating those disorders, making those struggling with these disorders ideal clients. It is not uncommon for a person to become drawn to things that are not beneficial to becoming the person we desire to be, it is possible to make different choices and I am willing to assist.

I am a cognitive-behavioral therapist using a number of therapeutic modalities to ensure individualized care . Areas in which I am experienced include but are not limited to trauma, anxiety, depression, family relations, self esteem, domestic violence and anger management. Warm, generous, and comforting, Dr. Borkosky is well suited to the first-time counseling client who has some problems but is uncertain about whether counseling can help. What can you expect from counseling? It depends on your needs, as Dr. Borkosky tries to help you with your problems as you see them. Patients often find that he asks questions that make them think or even that they never thought of before. He often sees patterns of interactions that aren't working so well, and thinks outside the box to come up with new solutions to problems. Many people are discouraged but they find that small victories give them hope.
