I always knew that I wanted to be a healer. The best description of what I do after 30 years of success is that I am a stress management expert for ages 2 and up. After training together in individual, family, and Child Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) my mother and I founded The Hamilton Practice in 1995. Working with survivors of childhood trauma and sexual abuse in Harlem for a combined seventeen years, we were stunned by the miracles that unfolded as we applied the power of connection and support. My mom left her body in 2021, so you will see only me when we meet, but you will be benefiting from the synergy of two generations.

Life is overwhelming in the best and worst ways. As Glennon Doyle explains, “Life is brutal. But it’s also beautiful. Brutiful”. I strive to collaboratively work with you to process these brutiful moments. Through evidence-based practices, professional support, and an empathetic perspective, you no longer have to handle it on your own. Our work together will be goal-oriented to support you in becoming the best version of yourself. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, major life transitions and interpersonal relationship or familial conflict.

Life is full of stressors, and these stressors probably got more complicated by surrounding crisis like the pandemic. YOU are not the only one; you are not alone in this. Help is always there for those who seek it. You could have anxiety or you could have gone through traumatic experience, and going through grief. You could be struggling with substance use, or have unmet goals of yours. I hope that you know the real value of counseling therapy. Although it has been recognized as a treatment for those who truly need it, it is also the road to learn how to cope with the points and situations we struggle with during our daily lives.

My approach to treatment is to create an empathic, supportive space in which you can examine your life, explore your goals, and either move in directions that you may not have imagined or develop ways which bring comfort, humor, creativity and authenticity to your current experiences. Each person is different and has lived, without necessarily choosing, their own history. I believe it’s crucial to understand and respect the behaviors that have helped anyone to survive and I use techniques which create a treatment partnership based on a mutual understanding of what creates for you safety, wholeness, and growth.
