Dr. Burgess is a counseling psychologist and the owner of BB Counseling. Dr. Burgess received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts. Upon graduation, he went on to receive his Master's Degree and Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Seton Hall University. Dr. Burgess treats a variety of disorders including but not limited to anxiety, mood disorders, personality disorders, ocd, oppositional defiant disorder, ADHD, anger, chronic pain, marriage counseling, and parental counseling. Treatment also includes psychological evaluations for bariatric surgery, spinal cord stimulators, and long term pain medication.

Accepting new clients! Dr. Jeff’s wide range of clinical experience entails adolescents, adults, and elderly clients. While pursuing his doctorate in clinical psychology, he completed an externship at the Rutgers College Counseling Center where he worked with college students and spent two years at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies in New York City where he received psychoanalytic training and supervision in individual psychodynamic psychotherapy. Jeff is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has a permit to practice psychology in NJ.

Most clients begin therapy after having engaged in their own soul-searching and independent efforts to change.They may be nervous about starting treatment, but they generally have a high level of motivation and a willingness to accept responsibility for making positive changes. My clients prefer their therapist to be quite active and, when necessary, quite willing to point out inconsistencies and unhealthy tendencies.

Teletherapy via internet or phone is available due to the recent crisis and CDC recommendations to minimize leaving the home. I have been in private practice over 38 years as a licensed psychologist, providing counseling in a confidential and professional manner using primarily a cognitive behavior therapy approach. Problems addressed include anxiety, depression, parenting, and relationships. My treatment philosophy emphasizes a collaborative relationship between myself and my clients, with a focus of the development of strengths as the preferred way to address problems and weaknesses, as well as legitimate goal in its own right.
