I love the counseling profession and the role that I get to have in facilitating my clients toward the positive changes that they want to see in their lives. As a counselor, I bring warmth, directness, authenticity, and even humor when appropriate in my sessions. I see each client as they are in their own individuality and respect them as the only expert about what they want or need in their lives. My goal is to always meet my clients where they are in their journey and to remain beside them as a guiding support in their steps toward toward their desired quality of life.

Medela means "healing" in Latin. I feel that’s what I do, help others on their journey to healing. I feel that healing is a process; sometimes nice and easy, but sometimes it’s not. Each of our journeys look different and that is what makes us unique. We can work on a variety of issues that you or your loved one may be struggling with.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor for the state of Alabama. I graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master's in Counselor Education and from the University of Alabama with an Education Specialist in Counselor Education. I have over 18 years of experience working with children, adolescents, teens, and adults experiencing a wide range of behavioral, emotional, and relationship issues.

I have been working with individuals, groups, and families, for over 10 years. It brings me great joy to aid others in working through their problems. I believe that everyone has the power to change. As a counselor, I believe that it is imperative for clients to realize that whatever they are trying to achieve is within them and my role is to assist them in identifying, accomplishing, and maintaining their goals.

I began human service work in 1986 after receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Counseling from the University of Montevallo, located in Montevallo, Alabama. I received my Master of Education in Counseling from the University of Montevallo in 1994. I became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2001. I am currently licensed in Alabama and Georgia (inactive at present in Georgia), and am a board certified supervisor for those wishing to become licensed counselors. I focus on the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, so that my patient can change a negative pattern of thought that prevents joy. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is also utilized in therapy.
