Hi! My name is Alex. I am a dual licensed LPC, or Licensed Professional Counselor and LCADC, Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I am licensed and practice in NJ. I have been in the field in some capacity for over a decade. I have worked in many modalities of treatment, with diverse populations ranging in age, presenting topic, race, socio-economic status, etc. I work with clients ranging in age from 6-65.

Working with a professional when life gets challenging can make the challenges you face a little less overwhelming. I provide therapy to adults, adolescents, and children. I collaborate with clients to understand and motivate anyone who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, personality disorders, or transitional periods. I work with clients who have diverse backgrounds. I also work well with men and anyone who might be apprehensive about beginning counseling.

We all want what’s best for ourselves, children, and others. You may notice a change over time for either you or your child “not feeling like my usual self” and not handling things in the same way at home, work, school, or in interactions with others. If you have ever felt like you do not know what to do or say therapy can be a place to work through feelings, thoughts, and situations that you have tried your hardest and best to respond to but feel at a loss or stuck. Therapy can help with sorting out why these changes have occurred in order to be able to move forward and feel like you are “back on track” and “in a better place”.

I have been working in the Mental Health field since 2016 when I graduated with my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have had opportunities to work with underserved populations of all ages in Substance Abuse Treatment, before transitioning to work with youth and families in the community. I have worked with youth and families for over 5 years helping youth, parents and families in crisis, as well as helping parents learn to navigate the world of developmental diagnoses.

I have 25 years experience in psychotherapy with special training in couples work, family work, adoption, adolescents and women's reproductive health challenges, including depression and anxiety in pregnancy, infertility, miscarriage, termination, perinatal loss, postpartum depression and menopause. In my work with children, adolescents and adults, I attempt to create a warm, peaceful and engaging environment. I work with individuals and groups with a variety of emotional, behavioral and social issues. In addition to considering the individual needs of a client, my approach to treatment also accounts for the support structure a client has in place. Particularly in my work with children, I often find parents and school professionals to be crucial partners in the process of therapy. In addition, many years of experience working within schools, makes me a strong advocate for parents and students who are struggling to succeed in their school environment.

Hi, I'm Dr. Phillips! I work in New York City and Montclair, NJ and am currently taking new clients in both locations. I have worked with youth and families from many different backgrounds and believe in two fundamental truths: (1) modern life, in different ways, can be very hard for any person, regardless of one's circumstances, and (2) we are all trying our best, but sometimes we get “stuck.” I specialize in working with children and adolescents, and their families who are trying to understand and support them.
