I am providing online creative arts therapy and talk therapy sessions to children, adolescents, and adults and will be doing so at sliding scale rates.
Finding a therapist that is the right fit for you is a crucial first step to a successful therapeutic experience. My approach to therapy is client-centered, meaning that I will work collaboratively with you to tune into your struggles, explore new and creative ways to cope, and strengthen your ability to manage your emotional experiences. I believe in using art in conjunction to traditional talk based therapy, as I have seen it provides an alternative way of expressing oneself for children, adolescents, young adults, geriatric clients, and on an inpatient psychiatric unit.

Anxiety, worry and self-doubt are perhaps the most common and widespread challenges faced by children today. From every area of their lives, children face daunting pressures and demands. For those already anxious or vulnerable, these pressures maybe be overwhelming. Already primed for frustration or failure, such children may find navigating key developmental transitions - from childhood to grade school, for example, or from pre-adolescence to the teen years - difficult if not impossible. Parents may have tried other interventions or therapies; but often with little or no success. What's a concerned parent to do?

Psychotherapy is a practice of deep listening and understanding. I help people develop insight into their troubles and look into habitual patterns that may create obstacles to their life goals. Together, we identify these patterns, explore feelings, and put effective coping skills into practice. When working with children, my approach invites the family in. Parent coaching, which involves a neurobiological understanding, and psychodynamic insight are integral. Through play therapy I help children discover ways to communicate their experience. The purpose is to establish a connection that encourages growth and the sense that children have a positive impact in their world.

In addition to more traditional parent-infant treatment, I am now incorporating into my practice an empirically tested approach called Watch, Wait and Wonder, which uses a free-play format to engage parents to be reflective about the child's inner world and about their own responses to the child.
I am a licensed psychologist specializing in the treatment of a range of relational, behavioral, regulatory, and developmental challenges that parents and infants may face in the first few years of life. As a trained parent-infant therapist, I can help parent-infant pairs who have gotten off to a difficult start or who have developed difficulties later.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of issues, with particular expertise in behavioral problems in children and alcohol/drug-related issues in adults.
Clients who seek my services are interested in making measurable quality of life changes. Emotional distress and conflict can create significant obstacles to psychological and overall well-being. Whether a child, an adolescent, adult, or family, conflict can lead to behavioral problems, abuse of alcohol or other substances, difficulty establishing and sustaining close relationships, and a loss of vision or purpose for one's life. Psychotherapy becomes the process from which a person uncovers conflict, explores barriers, identifies options, and pursues paths of change.

I've treated children, adolescents and adults in inpatient psychiatric hospitals since 1994 while maintaining a private practice since 1996. In addition to a graduate degree in clinical psychology, I have had psychoanalytic training, along with a recent certification in global mental health. These have provided me with a unique perspective and skills that allow me to engage with patients in a collaborative relationship with the goal of exploring alternative solutions to difficulties that have persisted in the patient's life.

I am passionate about supporting people who range in age from early childhood through adulthood. My background in child psychology informs my work with adults as well, as I am always considering how a person's developmental path and early relationships have shaped them. In therapy, I strive to bring empathy, warmth, and humor to the process. You can expect me to be curious about and accepting of your experiences as I support you in actively working towards change. I am sensitive to issues related to disability, immigration, and non-traditional forms of family building, and welcome all to my practice.

Making the decision to prioritize yourself, or the well-being of your child, is a brave and vulnerable place to step into.
Having worked in a variety of settings, including 15 years in wilderness therapy, I've found that there is something wonderfully inviting about working together in quiet outside spaces (or utilizing teletherapy in these times of Covid-19). Optimally I help clients utilize their individual strength, values and insight to help find a more peaceful state of mind and lifestyle. As human beings we are meant to build meaningful connections, and sadly there are an overwhelming number of deterrents to building those relationships with self, others, community, etc. We can and will tackle those difficulties together.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
