Announcement icon I am currently offering teletherapy services to clients in NC via telephone and video conferencing in addition to in-person sessions.
I believe that therapy can be an important tool used to help you live the life that you want, to find balance and to grow as a person. My approach is strengths-based, straight-forward, supportive and nonjudgmental. As a licensed psychologist, I enjoy working with clients to help them meet their personal goals. This may include addressing concerns with depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationships, and grief after a suicide. I enjoy working with children (7+), adolescents and adults. In working with children and adolescents, I involve family members when appropriate to address family dynamics and help parents.
I have specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) which helps people cope more effectively with strong emotions and stress. I provide individual, family and group DBT services. I also have specialized training and experience in supporting individuals who have lost a loved one to suicide.
“Most times, the way isn’t clear, but you want to start anyway. It is in starting with the first step that other steps become clearer.” ― Israelmore Ayivor. Getting started with therapy can be an important first step in your life's journey.

Amanda McGough's Groups

Adolescent DBT Skills Group

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a therapy that was developed to help people develop skills for managing intense emotions. At its core, DBT teaches emotional intelligence, and focuses on four key areas of emotional skills: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. This group also presents parents with the key emotional skills required for parenting teens whose emotions can be intense or who are navigating specific emotional challenges.
