I have worked closely with individuals, couples and families experiencing depression, anxiety, self-harming thoughts, traumas, intensive child behaviors/emotions, life transitions, domestic abuse and much more by using techniques from EMDR, play therapy, art, DBT, CBT, client centered counseling.
Accepting new clients for morning and early afternoon appointment times. I look at everyone's individual healing journey through a collaborative lens focusing on mind & body. Our minds & bodies hold on to traumas, depression, anxiety, etc & store it. I will help you assess the true roots to your issues & walk the path of growth together. I do not believe in “cookie cutter” therapy methods, which is giving every client the same skills and treatment. Instead we get to know the client & personalize their treatment to fit their needs, wants, beliefs & life experiences.

I specialize in AAT and working with children, adolescents, and teens who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, impulse control, and overall emotion regulation.
The clients that I typically work with come from diverse backgrounds and present with struggles across the mental health spectrum. Some of those struggles, but not all, surround anxiety, depression, trauma, suicidality, impulse control, and overall emotion identification and regulation. The clients I work with vary in age, starting in early childhood and continuing on into parenting and adulthood. My ideal client is one that is engaged, open to learning, and motivated for positive change. Therapy can be anxiety-provoking when starting, so having a therapy dog in the room can be extremely helpful when it comes to big emotions.

I am trained as a Child Family Investigator for the Courts.
I have become very interested in the brain's functioning powers and how people can learn to re-wire neural networks, using strategies that can calm, relax, heighten a sense of personal control, diminish the power of old patterns, and strengthen healthy neural pathways. Research now shows that talking about what is causing tension, stress, or discomfort for you is good for your brain. It is good to find a therapist, a trusted friend or clergy worker to confide in and improve your life. I work with children of all ages, adult individuals, and couples and families who are having difficulties.

I am particularly trained in working with adults and children who suffer from persistent obsessions, compulsions, social anxiety, panic attacks, phobias and chronic worry and/or stress. Many individuals I see also have other issues that are also addressed as part of the therapy. Cognitive behavior therapy is an excellent treatment for these issues, which often empowers the individual to get better control using specific tools and an individualized plan tailored to their needs. Therapy tends to be relatively short term with maintenance or follow up sessions as needed to ensure individuals maintain their gains.

Our typical clients are children and adolescents who are struggling with a specific change, transition, trauma incident, loss, or other stressor that is causing behavioral and emotional concerns, like defiance, anxiety, depression, self-harm, which interferes with school, home-life, and other relationships. Clients have goals to decrease behavioral concerns at home and school, improve emotions, coping skills, communication skills, and school performance. A lot of parents want their children to listen, respect, and connect and communicate with them. We also work with individual adults, families and couples.

The second area of specialty is re-building the parent-child relationship.
My belief is that when you build a strong alliance with your therapist, you create a really positive experience for the therapeutic process. I strive to create a safe positive place for adolescents to share their thoughts and feelings and learn new ways to work with conflict and setbacks they might be facing right now. Adolescents are having a hard time with all of the social distancing requirements and remote learning this often leads to anxiety, depression, and substance use. which then results in not completing school work. This is a hard time for families and it truly does affect the whole family.

Secure, confident adolescents and families are not born, but created. Keeping in mind children only have one childhood - I use an experiential community based style for children and their families who have experienced violence/abuse, unexpected life transitions, and fractured relationships. My work is to help my clients regain a sense of trust and a confident sense of self. Living with significant life stressors such as divorce, violence, grief and other transitions is difficult for anyone of any age, but especially teens. We all need a space to explore the internal workings of our heart and mind with someone who can listen.

Parenting is a life-long commitment that demands nurturing, attention, and patience. It can be a stressful experience when a child becomes aggressive, defiant, and controlling. If you feel defeated and blaming yourself for your child's behavior, you are not alone. Early intervention is key in supporting your child’s adaptability and resilience as well as your own well-being as a caregiver. My role as a psychologist is to partner with you to highlight your strengths, restore your confidence, and find lasting resolutions for challenges you and your child are experiencing.

I specialize in working with children/adolescents/young adults with developmental disabilities and/or cognitive impairments. My goal is to help indiviudals and their families make connections between difficult behaviors and their underlying causes, and to find interventions that work well for the family. I believe that assessing and identifying strengths in both the client and the family is just as important as identifying the problems.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
