Hello, my name is Cheryl Swanson and I am a Christian therapist who specializes in therapy with adults and parents of children under 12 in the state of California. I have practiced for more than 30 years in a variety of settings with children, teens, and adults. I prioritize teaching tools to help clients lower their level of distress as we address the traumas or other issues fueling their anxiety/depression. I teach parents behavioral interventions to use at home to change a child’s negative behaviors.
I tend to be very calm and ask clarifying questions as you talk so I better understand you. When I am teaching/explaining something, I tend to check often to be sure you understood me. Success in treatment means a reduction in anxiety/depression, a lowered response to trauma triggers, and an ability to use tools to self-regulate.
After your initial assessment, I begin by teaching tools you can use to feel less distress. This allows you time to get to know me before sharing sensitive material.
