I began practicing Christian counseling in 1992 after working as a social worker and substance abuse treatment counselor since 1984. I graduated from Regent University in 1989 where I learned how to integrate psychology with a view of what fits a Biblical/Christian counseling approach. Although most of my clients want Christian counseling, some are just looking for a moral perspective. About half of my caseload are individuals with issues like depression, anxiety, sexual trauma and stressful life situations. The other half are couples and families working through marital and child/adolescent problems and the impact on their families.
I may use some traditional techniques utilized in secular counseling but I work to filter everything through Biblical principles. To the degree of clients' comfort levels, I use scripture, testimonies, teaching tapes, and prayer. My approach to counseling is to meet the clients' goals using a Biblical framework.
My hope is that through this process clients' grow closer in their relationship with the Lord. Over the years I have seen the Lord perform many miracles in people's lives. Nothing is impossible when we yield our wills and ways to the Lord.
