Sometimes your feelings don’t align with what you know to be true. You can often function well but still feel aware of something off, confusing or wrong. You may feel troubled or unfulfilled and unable to fully articulate why that is. Even those who know why they want to start therapy often find that there’s more they were searching for. I think it takes time to work through the layers and find the language that fits. I see therapy more as healing and adapting than it is eliminating something bad. Sometimes your ways of making it through stop working as well and I think our work together is finding a new way.
My goal is to listen well, to be present and to be authentic in our relationship. Over time, I think we’ll become more familiar with your goals and begin working through the obstacles and underlying conflicts. My hope is that you feel more understood, more able to be yourself and more able to choose what you want when we’re done working together.
