I have worked in the mental health field over fourteen years in a variety of settings with both children and adults. I currently work in a private practice setting. I would describe my therapy style as Person Centered with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I believe effective therapy is most often a result of a positive collaboration between the therapist and the client. I have found my approach to be effect in helping clients alleviate depression and anxiety as well as improving self esteem/self image, decreasing impulsivity and anger management.
I have observed that my approach appears to be most effective with adolescents and adults. For younger children, I employ Play Therapy techniques in combination with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to teach positive coping skills. I focus on giving clients a great deal of individual attention and the opportunity to practice skills learned in therapy until they feel proficient at it. Newly learned positive and more realistic thinking requires practice and dedication to overcome negative thinking which has been ingrained for many years.
