It is a privilege to sit with others - individuals, couples or families - as they navigate the challenges of life. My purpose is to help my clients feel valued and understood as I listen carefully to their story. Taking a collaborative goal setting approach, I can then offer practical tools and interventions to help clients feel empowered to heal. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I have been trained in systems theory which essentially means that each individual within a family has an effect on others (either positive or negative) and that one part of the system can make a big difference.
There is power in this theory because it taps into the potential healing potential of relationships. I believe there is power in healthy relationships because they can contribute to our overall physical and emotional health, so one of the focuses of counseling could be to strengthen relationships
