I help males from teenage to older learn how to express their feelings in non-destructive ways and learn how to better understand the feelings they have. They learn how to feel good about themselves rather than compare themselves negatively to others. Therapy is not about being sick. It is about learning new skills to better manage what life throws our way. My clients see me more as a trusted confidant who cares about them than as a clinician looking at them through a microscope.
As a survivor I am familiar with the difficulties involved in sharing personal issues with someone else. Adolescent boys often have the most difficulty working through their problems. I find that the tougher the boy the more potential there is for dramatic change for the better.
My emphasis is not on finding pathology but on finding what is working and how to enlarge that to encompass more of life. It is about looking for the solution not finding yet more reasons to stay stuck in old, ineffective ways of dealing with life's challenges.
