Oftentimes, the main purpose for seeking counseling is to relieve the stress and anxiety of current circumstance in order to lead a more productive lifestyle. Child–Parent-Relationship Therapy (CPRT) is a 11-session parent training program designed to help strengthen the relationship between a parent and a child. Parents will be guided through the process by me, a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in child development, relational attachment, and play based interventions. Parents learn both by traditional in-session learning and by experiential recorded play sessions at home. Feedback, personalized resources, and support are provided throughout the process. They are taught basic play therapy skills and principles that they can feel confident implementing at home.

Sometimes, adverse experiences can block us from accessing the inner strengths we have used to cope in the past. My passion is assisting adolescents and adults in recovering from life stressors and transitional life changes. From a trauma-informed perspective, I utilize both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR to assist clients in their healing. I provide an open, safe, and non-judgmental environment and use a client-focused, strengths-based approach. My therapeutic style is empathetic and interactive as I learn about my clients’ strengths, the tools they have previously used, and what goals they wish to accomplish in therapy.

I have extensive experience working with people that have lived through complex trauma from childhood that continues to affect their adult life. Issues from sexual abuse, parental illness or parental addiction can be openly addressed in a shame -free space. I offer understanding, support, and education, to adoptive parents who are struggling or any parent of a child with emotional or behavioral challenges.

I love working with all individuals but feel that I have a specific skill in understanding people who feel thrown away, bullied, and/or marginalized in society. Historically, I have always done very well with people that no one else seems to be able to help or reach. I developed this skill specifically in my years working with low income and indigent people through public mental health. I did many interventions within their homes and showed them that they mattered.
