If you are seeking therapy it means you are wise enough to know you can do something about your problems and brave enough to try. For each person therapy is a unique collaboration. While I use my training in psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, cognitive behavioral treatment, and family therapy as guidance, success depends on paying careful attention to a client's personal history, life situation, and current goals. While the past shapes us and is always with us, your "here and now" issues are the focus, as we emphasize and reinforce your strengths while also addressing problems.
For 30+ years, I have worked with people with a wide range of issues, but my areas of specialization are in relationship difficulties, anxiety and depression, and addictions, including alcoholism, eating disorders, and body image problems. I also specialize in helping women with problems in menopause and beyond.
In addition to my private practice, I have been an adjunct professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Columbia University, and CUNY. I am currently on the medical board of directors of Women's Voices For Change, where I write a weekly column on emotional health.
