We often move through our old stories that influence our present. As an experienced practitioner of Somatic Experiencing (SE), and Psychodrama, I use body based action methods to bring clients into the heart of their stories. SE brings awareness to the connection between sensations and affect to free up the tangles in the nervous system caused by traumatic events that can result in living out of alignment with our true nature.

My name is Eric Carlson and I am the founder and director of Brainwise Solutions LLC, an innovative practice that offers counseling, mindfulness groups, plant medicine integration counseling, meditation products, retreats and organizational training and consultation. My 30 plus years as a therapist , college professor, and trainer have taught me that the decision to seek therapy is not an easy one and difficulty in overcoming past wounds is rarely related to lack of effort. My compassionate and caring philosophy combined with best practice multi-modal therapeutic approaches allows me to help a wide variety of people.

As a licensed clinical social worker, I take an integrative approach to the mind-body-spirit through advanced energetic modalities such as EMDR, EFT, IFS and guided imagery. Prior to becoming a social worker, I spent several years learning about alternative healing techniques based on Eastern philosophies and medicine. My curiosity around human development emerged around the time my children were born and provided insight into childhood development and psychology.

I have chosen not to work with children or couples yet offer individual psychotherapy to adults over 21 as well as seniors. I offer compassion, empathy, and knowledge in a supportive manner to assist each individuals growth and healing process. I am willing to assite clients using various techniques to assist them in meeting their goals.

My clients seek insight and awareness and to affect change in their lives. I bring Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral and Problem Solving approaches and techniques to therapy. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, an accelerated processing tool addressing trauma, anxiety and depression, and use EMDR in Family and Couples work and also with children. Families and Couples are offered structural and sytstemic approaches and interventions. Work with children provides Play Therapy and Social Skills Training with Behavioral interventions. I have strong advocacy skills in the educational and legal systems I enjoy the work with Individuals and Families, Adults and Children alike!

At different points along this life journey; we may feel the need to focus more closely on a certain goal that has been eluding us, take stock of where we are and where we are going, get some perspective and assistance overcoming a longtime or current challenge or stumbling block. I live and work in Woodstock, NY. Over the years I have seen a diversity of individuals, including couples, young people struggling to realize themselves, and those with the other challenges that we meet in our daily lives. I respect and appreciate the differences among those who meet with me. I have a good sense of humor and think that laughter, even under the most painful of circumstances can be helpful.
