Carrie Powell is a Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern and an EMDRIA-approved EMDR therapist who received her bachelor’s and master’s in social work from Walden University. She completed her master’s degree with a graduate certificate in Military Social Work. Carrie is passionate about helping veterans and others overcome trauma using evidence-based therapies to help clients build resilience and learn new coping skills to enhance their quality of life. Carrie uses Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy which is based on the science of the brain to resolve trauma reactions and negative thought processes.
EMDR therapy resolves trauma reactions and negative thought processes using dual attention stimulation to access the maladaptive memory network that has improperly stored information in the brain, allowing new, adaptive information to be processed, resulting in reduced hypervigilance, anxiety, and negative thoughts.
Carrie has experience working with individuals who struggle with addictions and families who have a loved one with an addiction and has special interest in helping veterans and their families who struggle with PTSD and the effects of PTSD on marriage and family.
