Individual, couple and family therapy provided through the lens of Bowen Family Systems Theory. The overall goal of "systems psychotherapy" is to develop of more effective options for decreasing chronic anxiety, increase more effective self-management skills in relationship to important others, and increase flexibility and resiliency to meet life's challenges .
Individual functioning seen in the broader context of relationships and how relationships can shape individual behavior and functioning in family, work and social systems. There is an emphasis on "defining a self" in relationship to one's important others and learning how to preserve a degree of autonomy in the face of emotional pressure from others.
"Systems" psychotherapy addresses the emotional processes that create a range of functioning in the individual, couple, and/or the family. When acute or chronic anxiety is high, the automatic emotional system can override and impair the ability to solve problems. The goal is to learn to balance automatic reactivity with a factual view of oneself and others.
