The purpose of therapy is generally straight forward. Individuals seek professional help when conflict in their world causes pain. In the counseling session, clients share their concerns and therapists share their training and professional experience . I believe that it is my responsibility to provide a safe place where clients can talk about their thoughts, feelings and experiences in a non-judgmental atmosphere. My approach is interactive, validating,
compassionate and collaborative. Depending on the client and/or the specific situation, I work from a variety of perspectives.
My methods of practice include: Relational (discovery through the therapeutic relationship), Existential (a here-and-now focus), Cognitive-Behavioral (developing concrete action plans), Psychodynamic (how events from your past continue to effect your life in the present), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (learning to find balance and possibilites between the extremes).
I have over 20 years of experience working with individuals and groups in mental health and chemical dependency treatment settings. I currently provide individual psychotherapy, DBT Skills Groups (addressing Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Distress Tolerance), and clinical supervision to other mental health professionals. Evening hours available.
