My clients generally describe me as an active, challenging, and empathic psychologist. I often find myself compassionately joining with clients in the middle of their difficulties, so that we can collaborate on finding a way out together. It's not uncommon for me to give clients feedback on their choices, while I also respect clients' autonomy. I work best with individuals and couples who are invested in their own growth and willing to experiment with new behaviors and perspectives. I tend to rely on relational-cultural and mindfulness-based approaches, and I am also open to adapting my approach to address clients' unique needs.
As a counseling psychologist, I am skilled at working with individuals who are managing challenges that accompany life's transitions and difficult decisions. Additionally, I am trained to treat mood, anxiety, and personality disorders. As a culturally-responsive therapist, I actively address factors related to race, gender, social class, religion, sexual orientation, and age.
As a religious person with training in pastoral care/counseling, I can incorporate religious/spiritual issues into treatment. Religious people sometimes feel hurt, stuck, confused, and shame--feelings that seem incompatible with living a faith-guided life. I empower clients to rely on the compassion and wisdom of their spirituality in pursuit of faithful lives.
