I believe that we all have an inherent need to feel connected, seen, and understood and that is often where the growth, relief, and healing begins. My clinical work is based on a dynamic and relational approach that works collaboratively with clients to gain an understanding of how early experiences underlie behaviors, thoughts, feelings, and explore ways to connect with others. My approach is grounded in a social justice, sex-positive, and anti-oppressive lens, that posits an understanding of how systems of power and privilege manifest in individuals’ lives and impact individuals' ability to heal.

What's your definition of birthright? As we grow, family, culture, and society can assign meaning that does not serve our best interest but theirs. Devastatingly, we're often taught to point the finger back at ourselves when things go wrong. But I believe we heal and thrive when we nurture healthy intrinsic (fundamental to who we are) connection to ourselves and others. This work creates a safety net allowing us to build self-esteem and adapt without losing our personal power. Pursuing the arts with a former career as a performer, choreographer, and artistic director, I strongly relate to "fitting-in while trying to stand-out".

More recently, I have shifted my focus from clinical practice to the training of pre-licensed and early career therapists. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development. I am a person-centered therapist with 12 years of experience working with children and young adults. I have also worked with adult clients for 7 years.

My belief that all people deserve meaningful opportunity and satisfaction in life defined my 15-year career helping adolescents, young adults, adults, families, and parents overcome barriers to wide range of goals. I specialize in working with men, especially those who identify as gay, bi or queer. Common issues I work with clients on include relationship/intimacy struggles, isolation, depression, shame, career issues, anger/rage, anxiety, sexual issues, feelings of numbness and addiction. I can assure you a level of comfort and understanding as well as specialized training when dealing with these issues. In addition, I take a sex positive approach and am attuned to the needs of poly, non-monogamous, kink and BDSM clients.

I specialize in counseling young adults, ages 18-35, helping them adjust to this new phase of life. As a therapist, I am always committed to my client's potential and well being. I have 30 years of experience working with individuals, couples, families, groups and trainees in private practice and at a top academic medical center. My professional experience spans from emergency psychiatric evaluations to outpatient psychotherapy. Often what brings people to therapy is the desire to change a pattern of behavior that no longer works in your best interest. Changing the way we handle certain areas of our lives can be a difficult process. Finding the right therapist for you is essential in making this change happen. Together we will explore what change you would like to move towards, and understand how your patterns developed over time. What once were effective coping skills may no longer be necessary or useful, but letting go and finding another way is the work we can do together.
