Pet loss is a type of what's called, "disenfranchised" grief. That's a clinical way of saying you're treated like the death of your beloved companion doesn't count and you shouldn't talk about it or show it. Your pain and loss count and don't need to be justified. Your grief needs nonjudgmental acknowledgment, skillful compassion and a safe space to be expressed.
