I wanted to become a therapist because I realized that mental health works! Like you, I’ve experienced many challenges in life and I found therapy transformative. My approach to counseling is practical as I am also a journeyman carpenter, the career that I began in the 1980’s. I offer trauma-informed therapy in a comfortable, accessible environment for children, adolescents, and adults. If you are open to try different approaches, art therapy is an option for all ages. Beyond any specific diagnosis, I view people and mental health holistically. With a background in education, I provide compassionate understanding of the unique challenges faced in developmental stages throughout the lifespan. I have experience and interest in working with people in high-stress careers, including legal professionals and military personnel.

Allow Me to Introduce Myself, My name Ta Mara P. Williams, Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, Entrepreneur, CEO/ Boss Lady, and Owner of Ta Mara’s Promise. I didn’t start my life with all of these titles. I had to work hard for each one of them. Through every challenge, every stumbling block, and every failure I learned to survive in"the struggle." Having a firsthand understanding that life is not always “rainbows and sunshine", but there are storms that can knock you to your knees. I believe It is my job as a therapist to help you see the light in the midst of your darkness.

My client focus is trauma and complexity. This can be a combination of grief, loss, a traumatic experiences and addiction issues. I enjoy putting many pieces together to help people untangle and resolve their issues. I have a special place in my heart for veterans, I am one myself and I so appreciate and understand the sacrifice. I've heard what really happens in war situations. I can hear that. My therapy style incorporates direct questions, thoughtful feedback, and interactive exercises to enhance awareness and facilitate growth. My 25+ years of experience working as a licensed professional counselor has provided me with broad knowledge and expertise to empower you to make needed and sustained change.

I remember when I started looking for a counselor. I knew things were not right but I wondered were they so bad that I needed to go to a stranger for help. After tossing around the idea in my head I worked up the courage to start calling people. Most counselors never returned my call which was frustrating and disheartening. Still, I held out a tiny shred of hope and found myself sitting on someones couch looking at my life.

Few of us get through life without challenges – whether it be adjusting to changes, managing crises, or healing from trauma. I'm a Certified Sex Therapist through AASECT (American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists) and have a certificate in Couples and Sex Therapy. I am also a Certified premarital PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator. I specialize in relationship therapy, sex therapy, and women’s sexual health.
