I see my role as a counselor is one of an assistant or facilitator. I believe we all have the ability to help ourselves but we sometimes need a little help. As we go about our daily lives, we encounter stress which can affect us in different ways; showing up as depression, anxiety, health problems, or relationship problems. Sometimes we need someone to listen and give us a different perspective on our problems and insight as to how to deal effectively with them. I am familiar with cognitive-behavioral techniques and incorporate family systems and personality theories as needed.

A cancer diagnosis is life-changing. It disrupts so many things about our everyday lives. And the stress can be overwhelming for even the most resilient among us. People coping with cancer often experience heightened levels of fear, worry, pain and uncertainty. As the founder of River Birch Therapy, I help children, teens, adults and families coping with cancer to build a life and thrive beyond cancer. During sessions, I work from a whole-person, strengths-based, relational and embodied approach to health.

My ideal client is someone I can establish a relationship with that allows us to work together. I try to help my clients to discuss and examine their issues and make choices that can help them. I am experienced in treating the emotional and behavioral disorders of children, adolescents, adults, the elderly, and the developmentally disabled. I have been effective in helping adults in emotional crisis, marital conflicts, and parenting issues. I have personal experience in managing the needs of a disabled child or family member, and in coping with severe illness, grief and bereavement.

My coaching practice is compassion-based & uses tools like positive psychology, meditation & hypnotherapy to build confidence & resiliency. Clients include Millennials 20-45, Gen Xers 45-55, & Baby Boomers 56-74 dealing with relationships, career, concerns surrounding parenting, health issues/chronic illness (cancer, diabetes, thyroid disorders, COVID-19), LGBTQIA, disability, and grief from loss (job, parent/family member/friend, partner, child, home, bankruptcy, divorce/separation). My areas of expertise include life coaching, life transitions, love-relationships/dating, & confidence/self-esteem building.

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who is highly experienced in treating adults with marital/relationship problems and problems related to sexuality and gender identity. I also specialize in treatment of emotional distress and sexual dysfunction in cancer survivors. My orientation is insight oriented and attachment based, and is focused on developmental issues in the individual and in the couple. I am particularly interested in assisting with existential crises that may affect intimate partnerships. In addition to my private practice I am available as an expert speaker on cancer survivorship and sexuality and cancer.

We are confidential, open-minded, comprehensive and whole-person centered. The spectrum of human sexuality is vast, and our goal is helping you find your own wellness regarding sexual issues. The Rochester Center for Sexual Wellness provides care for common and complex sexual, intimacy, and relationship issues in people of all genders and ages. The Center is comprised of a sexual medicine specialist as well as a team of certified sex therapists and sex therapists in training. In addition to medical evaluation and treatment of sexual issues, we offer individual, relational, and group therapy.

My specialty is bereavement. I help clients to cope with the loss of a loved one, physical illness, and anticipatory grief. I also help clients cope with life transitions such as: job loss, relocating, divorce, retirement and relationship issues. My belief is that we all hold the answers to help ourselves, we just need to uncover them. I use a combination of brief therapy, experiential therapy, and emotionally focused therapy to help clients reinvest and reinvent themselves after a traumatic life event such as the death of a loved one. I specialize in supporting people managing health concerns; Reproductive, cancers, geriatric, caregiver, diabetes, cancer, heart, respiratory. Additionally, developmental (MS, MD) & acquired (head, spinal cord). I focus on helping individuals and their caregivers manage anxiety, depression & other mental health concerns which are triggered/caused by health concerns. I help people who are feeling afraid, hopeless, overwhelmed, or powerless in their battle with cancer, but are also sick and tired of being sick and tired, and want to regain the energy, desire, and stamina to stand back up and forge ahead. I work with survivor's who are ready to turn their panic into their own personal power to foster new meaning and purpose in life, and to live strong with peace, hope and love.

My clients come to see me seeking assistance for a wide variety of issues related to anxiety, depression, mental/physical illness, grief and loss, trauma, stress, and unexplained anger. I believe in exploring issues from a family perspective; where did you come from and how did you come to be who, and how, you are? I have been working in the field of mental health for over 20 years. My experience includes working in the group home setting, private school settings, crisis outreach, outpatient mental health and inpatient psychiatric. I have additionally provided assessments for the Erie County Court System and completed risks assessment in the hospital emergency room to assist in determining the need for acute psychiatric hospitalization.
