I offer insight-oriented psychotherapy to women struggling to navigate through complicated, painful, developmental life transitions such as pregnancy, the postpartum period, new marriage, divorce, child rearing, empty-nesting, menopause, etc. Under these conditions of exceptional stress, past experiences and feelings often automatically, strongly influence current emotions and decisions. Sometimes these coping strategies work well, but sometimes they may actually be counter-productive. Having self-awareness of connections between past and present from therapy can helpful in making healthier, more adaptive choices. In this way, it can actually turn some of the hardest times in life into opportunities for growth.
Treatment can be coordinated with physicians when and if medications might be useful. Family consultations are also available when appropriate.
I am a fully licensed clinical psychologist, and a member of the American Psychological Association, the Michigan Psychological Association, Postpartum Support International, & the Michigan Statewide Perinatal Mood Disorders Coalition.
