What parts of yourself do you hide? Often, we hide complex parts of ourselves out of fear. Sometimes those fears are grounded in messages we receive from meaningful others in our lives. Other times, our fears are based on very realistic cultural appraisals. Whatever the source(s), hiding yourself and your feelings can contribute to anxiety, loneliness, depression, avoidance, relationship difficulties, unresolved traumas, secretive behaviors, and unrealized potential. Within a strong, supportive, and affirming therapeutic relationship, you can fully experience the complexity of yourself without the judgment or rejection you fear.
Research tells us the most reliable predictor of a successful therapeutic outcome is the working alliance between therapist and client. Therefore, I use an engaged and collaborative approach that integrates feminist-relational, interpersonal, shame-resilience, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic therapies (along with liberal doses of hope and humor).
Specializations include working with the unique challenges faced by educators, medical providers, therapists and other helping professionals. I work with development related to gender identity, sexuality and sexual orientation, and life transitions. I also provide WPATH-informed hormone and surgical evaluations for transgender and gender diverse individuals.
