For many individuals identifying a therapist is the first step in taking care of their mental health. Scrolling through countless websites or extensive phone calls, can be a daunting and overwhelming task. As you think about the type of therapist you are looking for and visualize the experience you want to have, the first and foremost step is feeling safe and heard. As a therapist I create a nurturing, and comfortable environment for individuals struggling with specific aspects of their life. Being in a setting where building insight, creating goals and identifying your true potential are my main points.

As a clinical neuropsychologist, I specialize in the assessment of children and young adults in order to evaluate intelligence, learning and recall, attention skills, perception, motor skills, processing speed, problem solving, and coping skills and styles. Families often seek an assessment when they have questions regarding their child's academic performance, social and/or emotional health, or behavioral concerns. The goal of the individualized assessment process is to determine each individual's areas of strength and challenge and to create a detailed learning profile.

Whether struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, dissociation, relationships, reproduction or existential despair, I am here to help. By approaching your well-being from every angle, we will work together to facilitate a mindful exploration of your conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I will help you build a personalized self-care regimen aimed to help you learn about yourself in a kind, compassionate, and non-judgmental way. This may allow you to begin exploring how your mind and body process experiences; how your past may get activated in your present; and how your body instinctually responds.

It takes courage to show up for yourself and in your relationships. To allow yourself to be seen and known is risky, yet essential. I work with individuals (primarily women), couples and families with various challenges including trauma, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and grief and loss. I also support couples dealing with relationship stressors, betrayals, or major life changes including families/individuals caring for loved ones near the end of life or those in the process of recovery. For clients experiencing struggles around perinatal issues, I offer specialized support during this transitional season in life.

Trauma manifests in many forms including difficult childhood experiences, sexual assault, abusive relationships and through various life transitions (divorce, pregnancy, postpartum). These life experiences can negatively shape the way you view yourself, your relationships and your interpersonal world. I can assist you in overcoming the effects of trauma to create a more fulfilling, hopeful life. My treatment approach is psychodynamically-oriented and mindfulness-based with an emphasis on creating a safe environment and alliance to help you feel secure and supported. I use empathy, humor and curiosity to fully understand your distress and work along side you to create change.

Welcome. I work primarily with couples and couples who are parents. Parenting and marriage play significant roles in our lives and they got harder during Covid. New parents especially are coping with topics that their relatives and friends with older children may have a hard time relating to. I am here to help new parents and couples navigate this transition time as individuals, partners, and parents. I rely heavily on attachment theory, Gottman method techniques for couples and raising emotionally intelligent children, and mindfulness.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in California are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in California then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.

How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in California, or Child Psychologists in California.

Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like California psychologists specializing in EMDR.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in California specialize in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
