As a parent I know there is no worse feeling than watching your child struggle and being helpless to stop it. Trying desperately to help and connect with them only to feel like they are moving farther away from you despite how much you love them. Ultimately, nothing is more painful than feeling like you have failed your child. In the end all parents want is for their children to be happy and healthy but often to a child or teenager, going to therapy can make them feel like they are a problem that needs to be fixed.

I have been in private practice for 10+ years focusing on clients with relationship issues, personal growth, depression, anxiety, and LGBT issues. I view therapy as a collaboration where we discover the areas where you want to make changes in your life and work toward reaching your full potential. I believe it is important that you have a good fit with your therapist, and I begin the process by discussing your unique issues you are bringing to therapy to determine if I can be an effective therapist for you.

My clients often come to me because they feel discouraged about resolving the challenges they are facing. Though troubling, depression, anxiety, conflict are often an invitation for us to take the time to focus inward, understand core issues underlying the symptoms, and learn more about our true needs. With this new awareness we may consciously choose new actions that help us develop a more fulfilling future. Through our work clients tell me they enjoy greater self esteem, more confidence that they can create what they want in their lives, and happier, healthier relationships with loved ones.

You imagined the path to parenthood to look a lot different. Pregnancy, trying to conceive, coping with losses and becoming a parent for the first (or umpteenth time) can be quite different than expected. It's important to get help if you're feeling overwhelmed, depressed, or anxious as you anticipate becoming a parent, are currently pregnant, or just had a baby.

I want to help adults, teens, and children overcome obstacles that prevent them from developing fulfilling and meaningful relationships with family and other people. I aspire to guide people on their journey to become more aware of their values, wants, and needs and help them develop the skills and confidence to overcome depression, stress, loneliness, and trauma. My therapeutic approach is person-centered and collaborative. With an empathic, validating, and non-judgmental presence in your life you can make the changes needed to live a life more aligned with your expectations.

My work is with individuals and couples who are ready to roll up their sleeves and get down to the task of making transformative shifts in their lives. Often people come to therapy believing that our history makes us who we are. Using the therapy relationship as a secure base from which to explore, clearing away the clutter and loosening a few knots, we often find that our history has obscured who we really are. In some way, most of us are longing for a sense of well-being that is not wholly dependent on external circumstances.

After 30 years of practice, I remain excited about new clients, new treatment approaches, and the joy of a client leaving my office with a smile and thank-you. I believe in being in the moment, being present, creating true and authentic contact, and facilitating opportunities for my clients to develop deeper understandings and practical skills. I work with a wide range of human problems, and enjoy the diversity that my practice has deliberately maintained. I work in an eclectic manner. I think meditation, laughter and play, are great for what ails us.

How can I find a therapist in California?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
