Many of the people I work with are living with the lasting impact of childhood trauma, emotional neglect, sexual abuse, abandonment, unstable relationships, or painful experiences that continue to affect them today.
Often, these patterns began as ways of coping with difficult experiences and relationships that didn’t feel safe or supportive. This work can help you better understand yourself with more compassion and less shame. Together, we work to understand your reactions, process painful experiences, and help things feel less overwhelming.

No one comes to therapy because everything is going right. You’re here because things can’t go on like this. Something has to change. But what?
That’s what I’m here for: to help you find a way forward. I believe that times of confusion and strife are also opportunities for breakthroughs. They call us to pause our old ways of thinking, and to begin the tough but rewarding exploration of our selves.
My goal is to help you help yourself. To do that, we’ll need to enter your pain in search of clarity. Eventually, that clarity will become your guiding light to a meaningful life.

Therapy is for coping, healing, and growing. It unlocks your life - allowing it to operate smoother, easier. Our mental, emotional, and physical states break down during grief, trauma, life transitions, crisis, and relationship distress. Let's shrink those issues together! I live in San Diego, but grew up and have held a practice in Atlanta for 20 years. Licensed in both states, so if you travel, go to school, or work in both states it can open up that virtual option for you since we have to be licensed in the state "where your feet are" at the time of our session.

Although looking in the mirror may not seem so difficult, looking beyond what is on the surface and into our souls - it can be. What everyone sees on the outside may not be how it feels inside. What seems small to others may be life changing for you.

Many of us don’t realize how negative events from our childhood affect the quality of our lives. You wake up most days feeling worthless, angry, fearful, anxious, insecure, and sad. These feelings negatively affect your behavior … you are unmotivated, impulsive, reactive, and take too many risks. These behaviors are negatively affecting every aspect of your life. Bills are piling up, you go from one job to the next, one relationship to the next, and may even be abusing drugs and alcohol. I treat symptoms of childhood developmental trauma/complex PTSD, (i.,e., anxiety, depression, and dissociative disorders).

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
