Prolonged Exposure Therapy in California
Hello, I was born and raised in Stockton, California. I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and in 1997, after 25 yeas of service, I retired from the Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant. After retiring from the Marine Corps, I worked as a Farrier (Horseshoer), as well as a structural welder (Ironworker), as those were the most marketable skill that I had. I came to a point where old injuries came back to haunt me and I could no longer walk (several years later, thanks to a surgery through the VA, I can walk again; thankful for that).

I specialize in evidence-based treatments for adults struggling with addiction, trauma, depression, and anxiety. My approach focuses on helping individuals deepen their understanding of themselves and increase their willingness to tolerate and navigate their emotional experiences. I recognize that meaningful change takes time, and I believe trust in the therapeutic relationship is essential—and something the clinician is responsible for building and maintaining. Overall, my goal is to help individuals increase emotional awareness, make value-consistent changes, and heal from patterns that contribute to suffering.

Therapy is challenging as it puts one in a vulnerable position. I believe it takes courage and a willingness to confront challenges in one’s life. To do so, my therapeutic approach takes a non-judgmental, compassionate, and curious stance to foster safety to grow and take on challenges yet feel accepted in where you are.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families who are struggling with conflicts in their lives, whether they are emotional, psychological, relational or any combination of these. I have also worked with persons with substance abuse issues, abuse/trauma issues, and mental health issues. All of them are looking for healing and restoration to a sense of identity and meaning, which can lead to a greater sense of security and purpose in life. Most seem to want to know themselves and other persons better and feel safe.

Therapy is a sanctuary where you can feel safe, heard, and cared for. Only when you feel safe can the hard work of healing begin. With my experiences as both a psychologist and an engineer, I bring a unique, systematic, and process-based orientation to therapy without sacrificing the compassionate, non-judgemental, and accepting environment we all need to grow. Together, we will develop a plan to organize the complex challenges you face, do the deep work to address what is holding you in place, and bring you closer to a more satisfying and meaningful life.
