The process of experiential therapy helps clients to feel, explore and expand upon experiences through various techniques that include personal history.
The decision to start therapy with a licensed professional is like setting out on an expedition to both rediscover old territories and to discover new territories. One set of questions therapy asks is “What is it like to be me now?” “How do my past experiences affect who I am now?” “What is getting in my way, preventing me from being the person I feel I can be?” What we talk about during each meeting are those issues that are important to you in your everyday life, relationships, job, parents, children, things that make you feel happy, sad, depressed, or confused.

I warmly welcome you as you are, and hold a safe space to support your intention for growth as your guide, witness, and companion. I enjoy working with clients who want more than traditional “talk” therapy. I offer experiential therapy , so you can go beyond cognitive understanding to having a transformative experience. I have an active style that is more than simply listening. I would describe the way I work as collaborative, curious, and challenging when it needs to be. I identify as a highly sensitive person (HSP) of gifted intelligence, both of which inform my work. My approach is mindfulness-based and somatic.

I follow a theoretical approach of integrative, collaborative, and experiential therapy .
David Richo stated that, "our wounds are often the opening into the best and most beautiful parts of us". It can be really challenging to open up and start to work on wounds that have harmed us for so long. My sole purpose of therapy is to walk along side you during your time of need as well as your time of comfort. It is important to understand that you do not have to work on these issues alone. You are the expert of your own self and with my help we can work on teasing out some of the pain and the hurt to heal open wounds. Like water, every individual is unique, whole, and complete. Sometimes we have a hard time acknowledging this and embracing who we are. It is in this place we are asked to go inward and begin to understand the patterns that inhibit our growth. I utilize a blend of therapeutic approaches, meeting clients where they are, by integrating psychodynamic, mindfulness, and experiential therapy to recognize problems relating to grief, bereavement, anxiety, and multiculturalism.

This means I utilize a combination of treatment modalities as they best fit you; including, CBT, DBT, experiential therapy , emotionally-focused therapy, trauma-informed practices, etc.
I believe my role as a therapist is to be interactive and involved in the process. I do not simply ask questions during session. I believe we work as a team to explore what is happening and how, if at all, we would like to change or expand this. Since coming to therapy can bring a deep honesty and genuineness from you, I hold myself to the same during our time together. I hope to help you be truly understood and safe to navigate the scary difficult things that bring you to reach out to me. I value an integrative, explorative, and collaborative process that focuses on your individual experience and personality.

There are a lot of possible ways you could have arrived at this moment. You may be hoping to live a life that is more integrated and true to your values. You may have had some previous therapy experiences that didn’t quite suit you and your concerns. You may have or wish for a spiritual practice like meditation to help you become more grounded and centered in your life, and you hope to find a healing path that incorporates these aspects of yourself. As a therapist, I help navigate and guide you toward your goals so that, in time, you are able to navigate and guide yourself.

How can I find a therapist in California?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
