The word psychotherapy means “healing of the soul.” If you’re like most, your soul has been wounded. Sometimes it’s nobody’s fault. Sometimes it is. You may have been wounded recently; or, more likely, when you were younger. And so, as a result, you’ve adopted beliefs, created stories, and implemented strategies to protect your soul from further wounding. But if you’re reading this, those beliefs, stories, and strategies are not working anymore.

This approach, much like the psychodynamic philosophy, pays close attention to how the unconscious mind influences how we experience life.
I work with individuals, couples, families and adolescents. I quickly get to know my clients so that we can co-create a plan that is right for them. Some people come with specific issues they would like to address. Others, are not sure why they are unhappy, feel nervous, are dissatisfied, and are not enjoying life. Together we investigate where this may come from, look for the root cause(s) and then create a plan for change. My business and entrepreneurial background helps me to understand the pressures that many people face daily, the challenges of balancing work & life, and the struggle to maintain relationships and a career.

My therapy approach is a combination of Psychodynamic (how our pasts can affect us) and Humanistic (providing an open, safe environment to talk).
When you are feeling hurt and alone, if you are seeking a safe place to be heard without judgment, this space is yours. Whether it's to explore deeper personal matters such as trauma or depression, make life changes to reduce stress and grow creativity, or simply navigate the complex world of love and relationships that even the best of us need a hand with sometimes, I am happy to help.

I utilize an integrative style of therapy, meaning, I pull from many different schools of thought! Primarily, I use a Psychodynamic approach that is trauma-informed.
I believe therapy is a collaboration. I emphasize the importance of meeting clients where they are at and guiding them to where they would like to be. I want to empower my clients and advocate for them throughout the therapeutic process. At the end of the day, I feel that each person is the expert on their own self, and at different seasons in our lives, we all need extra support and validation.

I draw on cognitive- behavioral, psychodynamic , client centered and mindfulness approaches, depending upon the specific needs of each client or couple.
Choosing the right therapist is the first important step in a successful therapy outcome. You want a person with lots of expertise, but also the right personality, someone you trust and can talk to openly. Drawing on my extensive clinical experience, over the years I have been able to help individuals and couples with a wide-ranging set of issues. Whatever stresses are causing you to seek therapy at this time, I welcome your phone call to judge if I seem like the right choice for you.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
