I work with people navigating life transitions, relationship and family issues, codependency, addiction and recovery, trauma (including complex and developmental), and the challenging work of reclaiming yourself.
Therapy with me is honest and collaborative. I bring an eclectic, relational approach that includes brain-body work (like Brainspotting) and practical skills to help you manage emotions and set boundaries - in a space where being quirky, messy, and fully who you are is welcomed.

I've learned that my clients have a wide range of issues but generally speaking they look for me to help them with; parenting, family issues, dealing with public entities such as school administration, childhood and adult traumas, marital and relationship issues and addiction issues such as alcohol and drug abuse.
Counseling/psychotherapy is about helping someone travel their own unique path. My mentors always stressed the idea of walking that path with my client, to see what they see and help them overcome the obstacles they encounter. Whatever you may be struggling with, I'll be there walking along side you, helping you to meet your goals and progress on your path.

I specialize in relationships, family issues, adolescents, anger management, addictions, self worth, loss, anxiety, stress management, emotional issues and health concerns.
The Chinese symbol for crisis is the same for opportunity. In every crisis we have the ability to create the opportunity for positive change. Quite often we don't take advantage of the opportunity because we get stuck in the crisis of the situation or event. My role is to help you understand and move out of the crisis and understand and utilize the present opportunity.

My experience spans working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those with developmental disabilities, histories of incarceration, addiction, trauma, depression, and anxiety.

I work with clients experiencing issues such as anxiety, depression, addiction, problems in relationships, lack of motivation, low self esteem, or difficulty achieving success.
Therapy helps you craft a healthy relationship with yourself and others, and supports meaningful life choices. My clients struggle with issues such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, loneliness, relationship challenges, questions around life direction, and personal identity. Often they report feeling "stuck," frustrated in their ability to change or move forward in their lives. As a therapist, I like to work collaboratively with clients to support and strengthen what is already working and to bring insight to areas that need more attention. With compassion and kindness, my aim is to help my clients gain coping skills that foster greater well-being and help manage difficult feelings.

I have been in Private Practice since 2003.   I see adults and also love to work with teens, families and couples.  I recognize that there are moments of change and transitions in a person’s life where outside support can make all the difference. I often start with short-term goal-driven therapeutic approaches but have found that working to help clients get where they want to go may evolve into a longer journey of self-discovery.  Tengo más que 16 años trabajando con individuos, parejas, familias y jovenes. Hay momentos en la vida cuando uno puede necesitar un apoyo extra.

What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
