I am currently proud to be a part of the With Hope Foundation, a non-profit committed to teaching and understanding teen suicide in schools.
As the founder of Inspired Resolutions my goal is to provide more effective and consistent services for teens, families, and marriages. With over 18 years of experience I began at the Substance Abuse Foundation. I then joined with "Shields for Families" working with the middle and high school population in Compton. In 2007 I became a Drug Court therapist on a collaborative team including probation and legal experts. I am one of the few therapists that has integrated mental health with nutrition and physical health.

There's passion and enthusiasm that comes with being a teen and that's why I love working with teens and young adults.
From the outside you are this high achieving teenager that meets everyone's expectations. But on the inside, you are silently anxious. You never feel good enough. You feel exhausted constantly worrying about what others think of you. You consistently push your emotions to the side to please others and try not to disappoint. Or you are a young adult feeling lonely outgrowing old friendships and feeling guilty wanting more reciprocity in your friendships. You feel nervous and anxious on making new friends for fear you aren't good enough.

Exploration of adolescent behavior, conflict resolution and emotional connection offer the roadmap to sustainable relations.
Which therapist is the right fit for you? Someone you trust and provides confidence of being able to meet your needs is the most important ingredient in my line of work. Navigating pitfalls of life and relations doesn't have to be a puzzle. Worrying about the future and thinking of the past can keep us from living. I enjoy witnessing the potentials of others I have the opportunity to work with come alive. Learning skills to navigate the challenges life brings our way is quite a relief. Seeing people meet their goals and grow beyond what they imagined is a realistic outcome for those who choose to enter therapy.

Do you live in constant fear? Are you overwhelmed by grief? Do you find yourself feeling sad, withdrawn, irritable, and lonely? Are you struggling to communicate with your teen ? Do you often wonder why they behave in certain ways? If so, I would like to help. We all would like to think we are strong enough to overcome these issues on our own, but there comes a time when we need to reach out for additional help. I specialize in treating trauma (specifically sexually abuse), mood disorders, and grief. I also have worked extensively with teens and their families, so I know the problems that are unique to teens.

Is your teenager talking about things like wanting to harm themselves or end their life? Is your teenager demonstrating signs of depression or unmanageable anxiety and you don’t know how to help? As a parent who loves their child deeply, I can only imagine how hard it is to watch your child go through this. As we hit the two year mark of the COVID-19 pandemic, I find that the pressures placed on teenagers in today’s environment are overwhelming. Teenagers have experienced so much loss in the past two years that has stripped away many of their normal coping skills due to circumstances outside of our control.

My primary goal is to help you take control of your life. I have been in practice for more than 25 years & I would love to help you build healthier relationships, repair broken ones, improve communication and intimacy. Research shows that much unhappiness, many symptoms of depression and anxiety (along with resentment and anger) can be reduced or alleviated. By understanding our past and acquiring effective skills we CAN change our life. We can't change our history or others. We can change how we see life, take control of our life and find peace and happiness.

Welcome! It is wonderful that you are here- taking the first step towards making positive change. Seeking help can be an overwhelming process; remember that you do not have to do it alone. I will do my best to offer guidance, support, and dedicated focus on developing an approach tailored to meet your current needs. While we will certainly address current challenges or problems, it will be just as important to identify strengths and assets already residing within. We’ll look at how to utilize coping skills, or learn new ones, in order to build resiliency.

Hi there! I know it takes courage to reach out for help, so great job taking that first step. Whether you are looking for guidance or a trusted person to listen and reflect - I can be that support. You do not have to be alone in your struggles. When life gets overwhelming the first thing to get pushed aside is our most important relationship, the one we have with ourself. When we learn to give ourselves the attention and compassion we so readily offer others, it can be life changing. I offer a space to talk free of judgment and full of empathy. We can work together to figure out how you can truly live the life you desire.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
