I fully believe that life is a journey, and therapy is a way to explore where we've been, where we're at, and where we're going. You are the expert in your life, and no one else is able to experience it the way you have. However, through therapy, a new understanding of self and dedication to developing healthier ways to cope and manage could benefit anyone. In therapy, you are in the driver's seat deciding where, when, and how we get there, and as a therapist, I am there to guide you and aid in exploration.

Seeking therapy, or asking for help is not an easy step. And yet, if you are here, it is probably because you are looking for some answers, guidance, and a trustful environment where you can talk about whatever difficult situation you are going through. By taking the first step, you are showing courage and together we can help you learn to embrace your individual strengths to better cope with life hardships. In a warm, safe, and empathetic environment, I help people gain confidence, identify negative patterns, feel more in control of their own lives, and get a better understanding of what they want for themselves.

My ideal clients are individuals and families who appear to be managing on the outside but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or misunderstood beneath the surface. You may be the one who’s always trying your best to keep things together — but inside, you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why things feel harder than they should. I work with children, teens, adults, parents, and families navigating anxiety, identity, and life transitions, with a special focus on neurodivergent individuals. If you or your child feel misunderstood, struggle with routines, or feel disconnected, you don’t have to figure it out alone!

I see therapy as an art of possibilities—a space to tune into your intuition, desire for change, and expand your sense of what is possible.
I come from a multi-cultural background and work well with people with complex identities who don't fit neatly into a box. My work is informed by my lived experiences of immigrating and navigating various cultures, healing through loss and grief, love and heartbreak, exploring art, music, body movement, and working with plant medicines.

I specialize in structural family, individual, art, play, somatic, cultural, personal centered, and psychodynamic therapy.
My name is Chinwe Ezeonu, my pronouns are she/her, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at Diaspora Therapy Group. I, as a biracial woman proudly come from two very different ethnic backgrounds, which are Filipino and Nigerian. Growing up I witnessed that mental health both in Filipino and Nigerian cultures was unheard of or seen as a weakness, but through much reflection, continual growth, and my therapy, it has helped me mend my views on mental health more positively.

Hey! I’m a systems-based therapist who believes therapy doesn’t have to be stiff or serious all the time. I love using humor, curiosity, and a dash of improv to help you explore life’s messiness. Whether we’re diving into trauma, untangling family dynamics, or making sense of relationships, I’m here to walk alongside you—with compassion, real talk, and maybe the occasional awkward metaphor (they’re kind of my thing). Let’s figure it out together.

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
