I specialize in treating anxiety and panic attacks, phobias, PTSD, eating disorders, trauma recovery, sexual abuse recovery, OCD, depression, and couples therapy, I offer therapy groups, including: (1) Self-Discovery: Transforming the Shadow Within (2) Groups for those struggling with leaving spiritual organizations or having left, due to maltreatment.

I especially enjoy working with couples and individuals longing for a connection to their "soul's wisdom" so they can feel more balance, joy, and fulfillment. I am an integrative, holistic mind-body-spirit psychotherapist. I offer techniques that will help you tune into your deepest self, the part of you that has your best wisdom and answers for what you are seeking in your life.

There are literally hundreds of therapy approaches, many with 3-letter acronyms. And yet, effective therapy is like learning to ride a bicycle: no matter what kind it is, you have to hop on and pedal. Using an integrated approach, I can help you do that.

I am dually licensed as an MFT and a Psychologist. I am also a hypnotherapist. I treat many conditions. Depression, Anxiety and PTSD for example. I believe that the therapeutic connection is essential; I respect my youngers as well as my elders. However, I believe that what differentiates a psychotherapist from a paid friend is a mastery of the unconcious. I therefore include in my practice methods that tap into a person's inner knowledge of self: EMDR, Natural Processing, hypnosis, inner child work and Gestalt dreamwork. I see the unconcious as the last frontier, and we are pioneers!

The last few years have been difficult. Some have found their way towards stability and happiness, others still struggle and feel lost. Although this is a very challenging time for the world, I feel optimistic that as a society, we have been given the opportunity to re-evaluate the trajectory of our lives and to discover what brings us meaning and joy again. As a Therapist trained in CBT, ACT, Behavioral Intervention, and Existential Therapy, I have successfully partnered with many clients who felt lost, anxious, and unable to cope with the changes life has thrust upon them.

I specialize in the treatment of all anxiety-related disorders, including OCD, Social Anxiety, and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake. After developing a treatment protocol at the Intensive Program level that was the first in the nation to integrate mindfulness-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ("ACT") with Exposure Therapy in the treatment of OCD, I am continuing that work in private practice. My focus is on helping people respond differently to the physical sensations of anxiety, get some space from "sticky" thoughts, and to return to the present moment.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
