I use techniques from different modalities, including, but not limited to, relational psychodynamic to address attachment-related problems, existential to explore meaning-making, and cognitive-behavioral therapy to re-examine pattens of behavior and thought.
If you strive to make a meaningful change in your life, finding the right therapist is the first step on the journey to self-improvement. The bond between client and therapist is an agent of change in itself, as it helps the client to develop healthy connections with others. In my practice, I help my clients live more fulfilling lives by identifying their highest values and helping them overcome the obstacles that hold them back.

I use interpersonal, psychodynamic , cognitive and strength base therapy as I believe that the relationship tends to be more important than "technique" and focus on where you are and what you need.
I understand the challenges, hopes, and fears you face in the process of seeking therapy. Our goal is to create together a safe atmosphere that will enable you to explore. At the same time, I look at underlying issues you may have and confront them in an empathic manner. In addition to private practice, I teach, write, and present locally and nationally. While I work with both women and men from many walks of life, my specialties include men's issues, fatherhood, sports psychology, working with executives, and diversity training.

As a queer, bi-ethnic EMDR-trained (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) clinician, I broadly apply a social justice, sex-positive, feminist, and psychodynamic approach to help my clients get “unstuck” by moving through trauma and finding clarity within the context of the world we live in. I received my Master’s degree in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley and have extensive experience working in community mental health and with individuals involved in the criminal justice system. My current work is informed by my years of experience as a public servant.

I offer psychodynamic and cognitive therapy, art therapy, sand tray, guided meditation, and psychoeducation.
At Lifespan, I treat anxiety, depression, addiction and co-occurring disorders, relationship problems, stress-related symptoms, women's health issues, and adolescence issues. In session we take the time to let your soul catch up with you—so you can share what's on your mind, organize your thoughts, and listen to yourself. This is a gift you give yourself, stepping out of the demanding pace of our culture to turn inward. The ultimate goal is to access your “inner therapist” so that you can rely upon yourself and your own strengths. Change is possible!

My training includes: Psychodynamic , EFCT and Couples Developmental Model.
Are you having difficulty in your relationships and wondering, "how do I make things better?" Are you experiencing a loss of self, feeling confused and/or depressed? Is it difficult to identify your feelings? Have your feelings become too painful to experience on your own? It is only natural to want to avoid feelings that are painful. It is our basic human instinct to avoid anything that is painful especially emotional pain. Unfortunately, avoiding pain results in maladaptive behavior and difficulties within relationships. Avoiding feelings can result in feeling numb and/or loss of self.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
