One thing we're guaranteed of in life is CHANGE. And quite often, change can be intensely emotional and very stressful. I am passionate about assisting people through transitions. Common transitions include
marriage
, divorce and other relationship endings, births and deaths, health issues, mid-life adjustments, career changes, parenting at different stages, even identity and self-esteem struggles. While transition has the ability to turn people's lives upside down, it needn't be that way. This is where therapy can be extremely helpful.

Typical topics of discussion in
marriage
therapy are infidelity, loss of intimacy, unresolved conflict, power struggles, communication, incompatibility and divorce.
I understand the anxiety around therapy. Will the therapist have an open mind?, is he/she supportive?, is this therapist right for me? I offer a 30-minute phone consultation to alleviate these concerns before we get started. We get to know one another and see if we are a good match. And, it won't cost you a dime! I can be either active, asking questions, exploring behaviors inhibiting your growth or listening, assimilating information, getting a better picture of where we need to go in our work. Either way, our relationship is "collaborative", with your best interests at heart.

Therapy for Individuals, Couples, and Families. You are here reading about me because you have likely been suffering – individually or with the ones you love. I have always said “We are messy people…” Our feelings, thoughts, actions often cause unintended conflict – miscommunication devolving into an increasing distance with those we intend to be closer to. Sound familiar? I have been an active advocate for families for over 30 years and a psychotherapist for nearly 20 years with a private practice focusing on
Marital
and Family discord, trauma recovery, severe depression, the treatment of anxiety disorders and chemical dependency

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
