Using powerful tools like attachment-based EMDR and Brainspotting, we'll heal the unprocessed wounds of your past so you can embrace the future with hope & promise.
Since you were a kid, you've been the one who holds everything together. You take care of people; it's what you do. "As long as everyone else is happy," you tell yourself, "I'll be fine." But you're not fine. And lately, you've begun to wonder who takes care of you while you're caring for others. Your prioritize everyone's needs before your own. In arguments, you try to stand your ground but frequently get steamrolled. You're emotionally and physically exhausted. You wonder if there will ever be a time when you can take a moment for yourself and if you even deserve to. If nothing changes, you worry you'll be stuck this way forever

My therapeutic approach mainly focuses on helping my clients identify their strengths to help alleviate anxiety, depression, and trauma. I am a firm believer that our childhood experiences contribute to our beliefs, behavioral patterns, and selecting a romantic partner. Therapy is a process! To allow ourselves to be intimate and vulnerable with someone about our experiences and trauma can be daunting. As a therapist, it is my goal to help validate, create a safe environment and help understand aspects of lived experiences.

Whatever your reasons for seeking therapy at this time, I honor your courage to do so. Perhaps you seek a “coming home” to yourself in a way that feels safe & meaningful. Perhaps you long to understand yourself in relationships or in the world around you. Or perhaps, you wish you make meaning of wounding or painful experiences. I believe that while we are incredibly resilient as humans, our pain is not meant to be held alone; as we need a present & safe other to help us hold, bear, & process these experiences. Thus, I am honored to walk alongside you as we explore & process all that you hold within.

Let's face it...life happens! We try our best to make the environment around us as comfortable as possible for ourselves, and many times we succeed. Then, there are those times when we just feel stuck and frustrated, perhaps even discouraged. Often, if we stay in those 'stuck' places for too long, we end up feeling depressed, anxious, stressed, angry, insecure, vulnerable, unmotivated, or just plain moody. It almost feels like there's some hidden knowledge that could unlock that 'stuck' feeling and let us get back to, or begin, feeling motivated and confident about the direction of our lives.

The current times are hard. Trying to feel like life is normal when everything around you is not normal can be its own stressor. When you are struggling with your feelings of self-worth, fighting with the look of your body, never happy with your weight - it can start to feel scary. What will people think when they see me again after all this time? If you think about your body and your weight and your food all the time, it creates distress that is always within you. Things feel overwhelming, and you can feel like there is no way to change. I'd like to help.

When everything is in proper order and balanced, healing unfolds naturally. However, we do not exist in a vacuum. Life can impact us in profound ways. We may at times feel stuck, overwhelmed, or hopeless. Sometimes we cannot see the “elephant in the room” because it all looks gray, something blocks our view, we thought it was “normal”, or believed we were the “problem”. When we pinpoint the source of distress and enhance the tools under our belt, we have increased capacity for positive change. Through the therapeutic process, I strive to help others with self-discovery, personal growth, and increased quality of life.

Everyone longs to feel love, noticed, and adored. But for many, Mom (or Dad) didn't show up in the way that was needed or they didn't represent physical or emotional safety. These children are left to figure life out alone. Childhood trauma is often the root cause of sadness, fear, depression, anxiety, physical pain, feeling stuck, unworthy, unlovable, and invisible. Or perhaps there were traumatic events that happened. In both cases, memories often stay encased in thick walls hijacking the mind and body with fear. There they remain repressed waiting to be witnessed to release shame, guilt, and pain to live a life of freedom!

It takes real courage to stop pretending you have it all together and shake hands with deep sadness or childhood trauma. I believe many emotions serve as flags indicating an opportunity for us to learn and gain more understanding about ourselves. Whether you are dealing with disappointment, sorrow, conflict, resentment, depression or anxiety, exploration of these tender spots can be a path to growth and change. Therapy can provide a meaningful relational setting where your unique experience and feelings can be expressed and understood, thereby increasing your ability to face life's inevitable challenges.

Life can be a beautiful, yet complex tapestry of experiences that sometimes feel too overwhelming to navigate alone. When we're tangled in the threads of anxiety, grief and loss, or trauma, it's essential to remember - you don't have to face it alone. As a biracial therapist, my journey has been a tapestry of its own. My own experiences with racial identity and the challenges of belonging have shaped my compassion and empathy for those feeling unseen or misunderstood. These experiences have become the cornerstone of my therapeutic practice, guiding my commitment to support others as they navigate their unique paths.

My goal as a psychotherapist is to provide you with a genuine, warm, caring experience where your thoughts and feelings can be held and mended over time. Sharing the negatives of one's life and self can be such a debilitating experience. Whether you just need a listening ear or a more directive approach, I am honored to be a witness and participant in whatever modality you feel works for you. Working with adults and children over the years has changed my belief of pain and trauma. If you are ready to take that leap and trust in me, I would be honored to accompany your healing journey.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
