Using EFT, EMDR, and Brainspotting, therapy supports trauma healing at both the emotional and nervous system levels.
Starting therapy can feel overwhelming when you’re facing anxiety, trauma, relationship stress, or family challenges. Many clients come to therapy feeling stuck or emotionally drained and want a safe space to feel understood. I offer a warm, collaborative, and culturally attuned approach using trauma-informed, attachment-based, and family-focused therapies. I specialize in working with immigrant and Asian families and provide therapy in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Hakka. My goal is to help you feel safer in your emotions, more connected in your relationships, and more confident as you move toward meaningful change.

For trauma I use EMDR therapy.
I am passionate about helping individuals achieve their best selves and find fulfillment in life. Sometimes, we are held back by past hurts, low self esteem, anxiety, depression, or other life challenges. If you want to find ways to overcome traumatic events, life challenges, feel more confident, and have better relationships, I am here to help! I also love working with couples. Relationships, especially those with our spouse or partner are the most important thing in life. Often couples find themselves struggling to communicate and feel disconnected from one another. I would love to help you and your partner feel more connected!

Most of us have goals we want to accomplish. Sometimes, we lose sight of these goals and seek a compass with which to guide ourselves. I strongly believe my task is to provide a safe place for you to do the work to achieve your goals. I've also become passionate about working with clients as they move from one stage of life to another. I believe a key to happiness is mindful connection to self, others, spirituality, the community, and the world. I provide feedback.

I have experience in utilizing the following therapeutic approaches: CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR, and solution-focused therapy.
I have experience in working with trauma, medical issues and chronic pain, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, gender identity and transition, foster youth and parenting, and caregiver stress. I was first attracted to this work when I realized how empowering therapy was for individuals who had dealt with trauma and loss while I was doing volunteer work. My drive to do this work is to help others achieve freedom from some of the things that are burdensome and keep them from living their best life.

I use evidence based interventions like CBT and EMDR, but with the understanding that social, economic, political, and physical contexts must be considered in your treatment too.
You're stuck and can't seem to find your way out. You have good days where you feel like maybe you've got this, and a lot of days where you just don't understand why it all seems so hard. You were reading full length novels in elementary school! Now you're wondering why filling out that paperwork seems insurmountable. Dishes, laundry, work, relationships, hygiene, exercise, normal sleep... You're tired in many senses of the word, but mostly of being misunderstood. You're not lazy, you just need the right kind of support.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
