Welcome to my Psychology Today page and thank you for your interest. Most of us need help at some point in our lives. There's no need to struggle alone,I can help. My sessions take advantage of the fact that our brains are plastic and can change patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. How do I know this? For twenty years I have helped clients alleviate depression, grief, anxiety and stress, worked through relationship problems, and identified and stopped self-destructive patterns and situations that disrupt daily life.

I offer holistic approaches to eating disorders, anxiety , burnout, and relationship issues. I help clients befriend their body and empower them to uproot patterns that obstruct their intrinsic capacity for connection and fulfillment. I view therapy as the process of restoring every person’s ability to feel and trust their own instincts. My approach is trauma-informed while encouraging playfulness and engagement of the senses throughout the work to restore a tactile sensation of wholeness.

Whatever it is that brings you here, therapy can help you cultivate self-compassion, emotional awareness, balance, and choice. The symptoms you may be experiencing are not because something is wrong with you. I believe that anxiety , depression, shame, and low self-esteem are reasonable responses to living in our society. You may also be experiencing the effects of past trauma, grief, social isolation, or a caregiver that was simply not attuned to your needs.

I'm experienced with relational and emotional issues including depression, anxiety , transition, LGBTQ issues, complex trauma, spirituality, substance abuse and identity issues.
I’m a clinical psychologist and I specialize in therapy for adults. If you’re here, I’m guessing it’s because you are struggling with something in your life and feel like you need help. I know how hard it can be to reach out and ask for help, and I’m glad that you’ve made it this far. Therapy doesn’t have to be daunting and mysterious. At the most basic level, therapy is just two people relating with one another in a relaxed, safe, and supportive atmosphere. What makes it different from other relationships is that we keep the focus on you, and I have specialized training that enables me to foster the conditions necessary for change.

I'm a licensed psychotherapist practicing in California, with a Masters degree in counseling psychology. I work with clients across a variety of issues. I counsel individuals, couples, teens, and families from a wide range of cultural, racial and ethnic groups. My approach to psychotherapy is eclectic - allowing me to address common issues. Some of the areas I have experienced focusing on are depression, anxiety , and relational issues. In therapy, we will look to find meaning in our present-day challenges, and experiment with new ways of thinking and seek resolution.

I work with individuals who have challenges such as anxiety , depression, trauma, obsessions, compulsions, relationship issues, and general life distress.
I work with individuals and couples who present with a diverse collection of strengths, challenges, and goals in life. I provide a space, whether in person or telehealth, that allows for people to feel accepted for who they are without judgement or shame. I work along side each individual or couple to define goals of treatment so we know when to celebrate or to redefine our objectives. I like to explore values, emotions and thoughts to identify opportunity for positive change. In addition to these qualities of my practice, my perspectives are grounded in feminist principles, Buddhist philosophy, and attachment theory.

I work well with individuals, couples, and families to find resolve from issues of depression and anxiety , identity and expression, sexuality, mono/poly relationship difficulties, isolation, loneliness, and low self-esteem.
The fact is that everyone at some point in their lives, will face challenges, traumas, circumstances or relationships that overwhelm their ability to cope. While navigating these experiences can be painful, difficult, and complex- no one should have to go at it alone. I view the therapeutic experience as collaborative. My intention is to create a safe, supportive, and judgement free space where together we'll explore what brings meaning into your life, and dismantle the obstacles that get in your way. My role is to bolster skills that encourage meaningful reflection, communication, and connection to self and others.

Anxiety , depression, relationship dynamics, loneliness, addiction and myriad issues of sex and sexuality tend to dominate my practice.
'Once there was a man who was afraid of his shadow. Then he met it. Now he glows in the dark.' This mantra will define our work. It's not easy to look within and wrestle with things that trouble us. By harnessing them we can manifest powerful change. I will be a proactive collaborative partner to assess and address your goals toward growing, expressing, exploring or resolving what you bring into therapy. Truth will be our most effective weapon. Together we will ask the hard questions. We will strive to shed the unhealthy and unwelcome parts of who you were and preserve the most powerful essential parts of who you are becoming.

I enjoy working with clients who are looking to explore new ways to understand themselves, their relationships, and the reasons for their distress. I think that most of our depression, anxiety , or trauma responses come from a place of protectiveness and if we can learn to have empathy for ourselves in these reactions, we can learn to choose when to double-down and when to let go.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
