I am a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and utilize psychodynamic approaches to help clients understand how their early life influences their thoughts and beliefs. I believe that the way we talk to ourselves will determine how we feel and act, and I want to know what you believe about yourself and how you feel about others. Together, we can adjust unhealthy thinking and replace acting out behaviors.

I became a therapist because I am a firm believer in the power of human connection. I understand that the most important thing is the therapeutic relationship. Therefore, I provide a gentle, non-judgmental approach to make clients feel safe and heard. This allows clients to develop trust with another person, which ultimately leads them to grow and to believe and trust in their own inner voice and intuition.

You've always had the power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself. - Glinda For almost 25 years, I've had the privilege of walking alongside clients as they navigate life's challenges. The most rewarding part of my work is 'graduating' them, celebrating their success in achieving their therapeutic goals. While saying goodbye is always tinged with sadness, it's a powerful reminder of their resilience and growth. I'm deeply grateful to have been a part of their journey towards improved self-esteem, coping skills, and overall well-being.

I know…therapy can feel daunting, but you took the first step, you're here! I believe we’re all capable of growth and creating the lives we want. Therapy is a space to gain perspective, challenge old stories, and reconnect with what matters most. We don’t have to be defined by our past, worries, fears, or inner critic when we integrate and shift how we think and feel. My approach to therapy is holistic, transparent, grounded, and sometimes sprinkled with laughter when appropriate. I’ll meet you where you are while helping you get out of your own way and move towards growth.

Are you concerned about your child's wellbeing? I specialize in working with children and I am passionate about my work with adolescents and young adults. Growing up is difficult enough; dealing with the intense pressure of school, family, friends and intimate relationships is often overwhelming. It is equally difficult establishing one's self and who you will be the remainder of your life. Homework, test anxiety, divorce, bullying and or peer pressure frequently overwhelm children and teens while major transitions --college, relationships and career-- leave us feeling inadequate.

It is my belief that healing comes from within you, and within the context of relationship. I practice Somatic Experiencing therapy, which focuses on positive psychology and the concept of healing at a biological and nervous system level (reconnecting the mind and body as one). I aim to provide a space for you to be your truest self, to help you to create more balance in your life, to break free from old patterns, and to expand your natural capacity to heal.

Therapy is a dynamic process where old wounds can begin to heal and new experiences can become more meaningful and fulfilling. Yes, it can be difficult and painful, but it can also be extremely rewarding and life-changing. Through insight, empathy, support, and understanding, as well as through the relationship you and I will share, I approach the therapeutic process as an avenue to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and trusting environment. As a result of this process, you can gain more self-awareness, which can help foster deeper connections in relationships with yourself and others.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
