Welcome to my " family practice." Finding a therapist that you feel comfortable talking with is crucial to the success of your work with that therapist. My work with an individual, whether child or adult, as well as with a family , begins with us developing a conversational style and working relationship together that will foster growth and learning. Together in this environment, we can work towards those goals we have set out, or simply take the opportunity to express feelings and thoughts in a safe, confidential environment.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Family Systems and Mindfulness are also routinely integrated into the therapy process.
I enjoy helping clients better understand themselves so they can make a more informed choice about how they wish to move through the world. This is best achieved when a client feels safe, heard and not judged, so that is the essence of what I try to provide to all clients right away - a safe and relaxing space to be listened to with empathy and concern. Trauma and emotional pain can be difficult to deal with, and it’s a privilege to be able to support you as quickly as possible, with evening and weekend availability and your choice of in-office and remote sessions.

Are you concerned about your child's wellbeing? I specialize in working with children and I am passionate about my work with adolescents and young adults. Growing up is difficult enough; dealing with the intense pressure of school, family , friends and intimate relationships is often overwhelming. It is equally difficult establishing one's self and who you will be the remainder of your life. Homework, test anxiety, divorce, bullying and or peer pressure frequently overwhelm children and teens while major transitions --college, relationships and career-- leave us feeling inadequate.

I became a therapist because I am a firm believer in the power of human connection. I understand that the most important thing is the therapeutic relationship. Therefore, I provide a gentle, non-judgmental approach to make clients feel safe and heard. This allows clients to develop trust with another person, which ultimately leads them to grow and to believe and trust in their own inner voice and intuition.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
