It is my belief that everyone navigates his or her way through their family of origin and early environment by developing strategies and coping techniques, essentially doing the best one can in the circumstances. Later, these ways of handling relationships and stressors can become limiting. Members of couples and families can also develop entrenched ways of relating that become partially based on assumptions. Frustration, anxiety, disappointment and resentment can result. Psychotherapy enables you to understand the evolution of these patterns and develop more choices in how you respond and relate to others.

I specialize in relationship issues. That means your relationship to yourself, and to others. But it also means I specialize in self esteem . If your sense of self is injured, you may not feel worthy of the kind of life you long to live. You may end up in relationships that need help, or no relationship at all. And that can all contribute to anxiety, depression, and unhelpful ways of trying to soothe the pain, instead of getting help to heal the pain. I do a lot of couple's therapy, and a lot of therapy with people who are looking for a life mate. But it all starts with feeling good about yourself.

Welcome to my profile page. I am a supportive, authentic, and direct therapist who prioritizes my clients' emotional safety and sense of connectedness. My background is in social work, so I take a holistic perspective and collaborate with each client on the best way we can work together to help them reach their goals. Each individual is more than just their psyche...their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are impacted by their relationships, environment, resources, and histories. I love hearing about all parts of my clients' lives so we can draw a map for how to help them function better.

We all experience difficulties at some point in our lives- this is part of being human. Some people are able to move on and some get "stuck" for reasons that are not always clear. Psychotherapy offers an opportunity to explore these reasons in a safe, accepting environment and inspires personal growth. Therapy itself can be short (a few sessions) or long term, and in successful cases its positive impact lasts a lifetime. For the last 20 years I've helped individuals who struggled with depression, anxiety, relationship or parenting issues, low self-esteem and more to reach their goals.

There is no such thing as an ideal client other than one that takes the first steps to help better themselves. I am here to aid the process. Everyone has a purpose. Mine is to help people using different modalities catered to individual needs. I hope that every person that I assist learns self confidence, gains emotional intelligence, learns to self reflect, and builds healthy strategies to face the difficulties life can bring. We cannot always control the things in our paths but we can learn to control ourselves and how we cope with hardships. We have the ability to turn unfortunate events into beautiful testimony.

The therapy I provide focuses on children, adolescents, families and adults. My clinical experience involves those afflicted by depression, anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, identity, grief and transitions. An important part of my work allows children and their caregivers to work as a team to achieve therapeutic goals. I welcome caregivers to participate in child’s therapeutic work by providing parent consultations, check-in’s and when appropriate, facilitating parent-child sessions. My approach is tailored to the needs and therapeutic goals of each of my clients. I collaborate with you and together we will establish realistic goals.

I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who are experiencing challenges in their lives - including school or work performance, relationships with family and friends, or self-esteem. As a parent you might notice your child withdrawing, not interacting as usual with friends and family, getting into more fights or trouble, or struggling with self-confidence. Sleeping and eating habits and other daily routines may be affected as well. When you feel as though you don't know what else to do, reaching out and getting help through counseling can be the best alternative.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
