Sometimes it may feel like no one truly understands what you are going through. Maybe you feel like you are stuck in a revolving door of thoughts, feelings or actions that continually block you from getting where you want to go. Maybe the stresses and realities of our current world leave you feeling eroded and hopeless. You may have tried therapy, but still don’t feel like you have all the tools you need to handle the stresses of daily life. Are you tired of feeling powerless to lead the kind of life you envision for yourself?

Though I consider myself a generalist and am happy to help with a variety or concerns, my areas of specialty and interest include anxiety, OCD , panic, health-related concerns, and peripartum issues.
We all have strategies for dealing with challenges day-to-day. But over time, many strategies can fall short or even backfire. We may find ourselves withdrawing and avoiding certain aspects of our lives, or overextending and pushing ourselves to the point of exhaustion. This can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, and irritable and can also take a toll on our relationships and physical health. One of my goals as a therapist is to help you identify changes you can make, both big and small, and tap into your motivation to follow-through on those changes.

I enjoy working with individuals with anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, and/or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ( OCD ).
I try to create a light-hearted and non-judgemental environment that allows individuals to build confidence and autonomy while gaining back control over mental health struggles. It's important to me that people feel supported as they navigate a journey of personal growth. Oftentimes, people are nervous to share thoughts or worries they have had for years without talking to someone about it. I challenge people to take the risk to open up and work to solve difficulties that have come up, to make enjoying life just a little bit easier.

I am certified in perinatal mental health, including anxiety, depression, OCD , birth and NICU trauma, and pregnancy and infant loss.
I work best with adults who hard on themselves, especially parents and people experiencing chronic pain. Do you often feel like you "should" be doing more or better? Do you feel guilty taking time for yourself? Do you have mixed feelings about parenthood or your relationship? Learning how to treat ourselves with compassion, accepting our negative feelings as well as the positive ones, and balancing caretaking for others with caring for ourselves is something many of us have to learn as adults. These are areas I help my clients with daily. You don't need to struggle with these issues alone.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
