I want to start by thanking you for taking the time out of your day to get to know me. When I was sixteen years old I struggled with a depression so deep I thought I would never escape from it. Through the help of a therapist I was able to see that my darkness was not my destiny. Whether it be from stress, loss, disposition, painful memories, or difficult circumstance, we all suffer from time to time throughout our lives. Sometimes what we need is someone to witness that struggle, and walk with us for a time. It would be my honor to walk with you.

I have 45 years of experience helping clients talk about their current lives. With this information I am able to gain a clear description of what is important for my clients. I know each client has their unique ways of expressing themself. For my part I approach each client in a calm caring manner. My intention is to establish a safe environment for self-disclosure. Being a therapist is part of my passion in life. It has always been more than a career. It is part of my spiritual path. While the therapeutic method is important the connection the therapist and client have with one another is the key to the healing process.

Sometimes our relationships with others, or ourselves, get stuck. We may have lost direction, purpose, or meaning, and we become unsure of who we are or who we are in our relationships with other people. We may feel alone, sad, or scared. Some of us become overwhelmed by naming these emotions. Some may choose to isolate ourselves and think we must navigate this life alone. In these moments, I believe we are invited to pay attention; when we do, we begin the journey toward growth and healing. I think therapy can be a gift, inviting you to look inward to become whole.

A rapidly growing number of men lose everything because they fail to make healthy choices about sexual behavior. Most are good people who made poor decisions because they push the limits of acceptable sexual behavior. Our goal is to assist you in developing healthy lifestyles, while at the same time preventing serious consequences to you and others. Sexual behavior does not need to be "normal," but it must be ethical and not harmful. Think about it! BLUE ROCK INSTITUTE (BRI) is equipped to help anyone with compulsive/problematic thoughts, urges, or sexual behaviors. Please call. "It's your life: Own it, Create it, Love it.

Most of us hit seasons where we feel stuck, empty, or deeply anxious. My job is to help clients get unstuck and to find a ground of meaning, motivation, and a new vision for healthy relationships. For some clients, therapy is brief and very solution-focused (5-12 sessions), though my preference is to work with clients interested in deeper change, which often requires more time. For many, we explore more deeply their personality structure, the early roots of their relational styles, and the spiritual habits of the heart that often make the difference between thriving and merely surviving. Let's get to work!

Our life experience as individuals impacts how we receive the world around us. There exists a unique relationship between who each of us is as a person and the moments that mount between birth and death. My intention is to gain an understanding of who you are, and the challenges that you and/or your relationship(s) face in order to build a trusting, healing relationship with you. I aim to provide a challenging space of empathetic support and non-judgmental understanding, encouraging personal growth through increased insight, and thus promoting a broader perspective as you approach solutions to the answers you are searching for.

I want to support you through the hard stuff. You may want to feel more in control of how you feel and cope with the stressors in your life. You may feel discouraged, hopeless or overwhelmed. Maybe you feel so drained emotionally and physically it's difficult finding reasons to get out of bed. It is never easy to address areas of pain, unease, or discomfort. I want you to feel less alone while you learn new ways to build your self-confidence and promote self-respect.

We all have strategies for dealing with challenges day-to-day. But over time, many strategies can fall short or even backfire. We may find ourselves withdrawing and avoiding certain aspects of our lives, or overextending and pushing ourselves to the point of exhaustion. This can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, and irritable and can also take a toll on our relationships and physical health. One of my goals as a therapist is to help you identify changes you can make, both big and small, and tap into your motivation to follow-through on those changes.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
